Can you help dogs with Liver disease?
We’re sorry to hear that your dog has been diagnosed with Hepatic (Liver) disease, we understand how difficult this must be.
Unfortunately, we aren't able to provide food suitable for dogs with liver disease (including those with liver shunts) because liver disease is often best managed with a prescription diet. They’re typically low in protein (18% or less), low in copper and iron and highly digestible.
Chat with your vet
If you've not already spoken to your vet, we'd suggest having a chat with them. There are specialised diets available that can offer an extra level support to aid liver function, beyond what we can provide.
However, we completely understand that under exceptional circumstances - for example if your dog is under end-of-life care - your vet may feel it's best for your dog to stay on their current food. As long as your dog is happy and enjoying their meals, there's no need to make any changes to their food.
For some dogs, smaller, more frequent meals can also benefit as this creates a smaller workload for the liver to manage at any one time, rather than one or two big meals.
