Why do you use Fipronil in your flea and tick treatment?
Fipronil is a highly effective flea and tick treatment for dogs. We can legally offer personalised doses without a prescription, ensuring it’s safe for your dog and convenient for you.
Recent research has highlighted that Fipronil may be harmful to freshwater ecosystems. This can happen when dogs treated with these medications come into contact with lakes, rivers or other bodies of water.
Currently, all topical flea and tick treatments for pets have similar effects on the environment. Because of this, we're looking out for new formulas. We hope to offer alternative protection in the future, with minimal impact on the environment.
Until then, there are a few steps you can take to help:
- We recommend only bathing your dog towards the end of each treatment period to minimise the “wash-off effect”
- Similarly, try to only wash your dog’s bedding at the end of their treatment period
- Try to keep your dog out of ponds, lakes and rivers to help protect wildlife habitats
You know your dog best. So we’d recommend speaking with your own vet if you want to discuss other options for parasite prevention.
