What was wrong with the maize supply?
The warmer wetter weather that has affected parts of the UK and Europe has led to a number of difficult challenging harvests for farmers. To maintain our unwavering quality standards, we rigorously test all ingredients. When we detected an issue with the maize in some of our kibbles, our team immediately took action to uphold those standards.
What does reformulation mean?
To resolve this issue and get your order back on track, we've made changes to the ingredients in some of our kibbles:
- Maize – we've either removed or reduced the amount of maize in our kibbles, all of which have now passed our stringent quality checks.
- Alternative grains - we've also introduced a blend of nutritious, alternative grains, including:
- Oats – a high-protein grain with essential vitamins and minerals. A great source of soluble and insoluble fibres, including Beta-glucans for gut microbiome support.
- Rice – easily digestible and an excellent source of energy, minerals, fibre and B vitamins.
- Barley – an excellent source of energy, soluble fibre, Beta-glucans for digestive health, B vitamins and minerals like magnesium and iron.
- Alternative veggies:
Potato - to provide plant-based protein, complementing the other amino acids present in your dog’s main protein source.
Peas - a plant-based protein, rich in antioxidants, fibre and essential nutrients like vitamins C, K, B1, manganese and folate.
If your dog has a potato or pea allergy, please do get in touch with our team and they’ll be able to advise you on what we can do to help.
Whilst their kibble blend may look slightly different, it remains nutritionally balanced and tailored to your dog’s unique needs – with all their exclusions, dislikes and health goals taken into account.
What are you doing to prevent this from happening again?
We understand how frustrating delays can be and how vital consistent nutrition is for your dog.
To address this, the reformulations we have completed achieve two key goals: maintaining our strict quality and nutritional standards, and proactively diversifying our grain supply to prevent similar delays in the future.
Is the Tails.com food my dog has already eaten safe?
Yes. These changes are designed to maintain the high-quality, nutritious and precisely tailored food we've always provided.
Our routine checks throughout the cooking process, from our raw ingredients to your dog’s freshly blended kibble, ensure any issues are identified and resolved before your delivery reaches you.
My dog is fussy/sensitive so I’d rather keep their original blend, how can I do this?
Unfortunately, we can’t revert back to their previous kibble blend due to the changes in the ingredients we’ve brought in. This is to ensure your dog’s food meets our quality and nutrition standards.
While you might notice a slight change in the kibble's appearance, this updated blend remains tailored to your dog's individual needs and taste preferences. If you have any specific concerns you can reach out to our team or support.
My dog has an allergy, what do I need to know?
Whilst this kibble blend may look slightly different, it remains nutritionally balanced and tailored to your dog’s unique needs – with all their exclusions, dislikes and health goals taken into account.
Grains including rice, oats and barley, wheat and maize are safe for dogs to eat and provide valuable sources of fibre, plant-based proteins and other micronutrients. For a very small number of dogs, grains can be dietary sensitivities, but this isn’t common.
You know your dog best. So if you’d still prefer not to include them, you can choose to exclude all grains in your dog’s Profile on your account page.
My dog is sensitive to gluten - can I still avoid this?
Yes. If gluten is something you need to avoid, then we’d recommend you exclude all grains in your dog’s Profile on your account page.
My dog has a health condition, what do I need to know?
Due to the precisely tailored nature of the food we provide, this reformulation was a thorough process that we prioritised. As a result, while your dog’s kibble blend might look a little different, it remains nutritionally balanced and tailored to your dog’s unique needs – with all their exclusions, dislikes and health goals taken into account.
Of course, if you are concerned about your dog’s health or have a specific question, please get in touch. We’re more than happy to help with any concerns you might have.
How does this updated blend compare to my dog’s previous blend?
Although we've introduced new ingredients, the overall nutritional content remains very similar. If your dog enjoyed these kibbles before, they'll likely continue to. Of course, we're always here to help if you have any health concerns or specific questions.
Why do the kibbles in my dog’s blend look different?
Because we've changed some ingredients, the kibble's appearance might vary slightly, similar to how a recipe at home can look different with a substitute ingredient. This is perfectly normal and their kibble is still nutritionally balanced and tailored to your dog’s unique needs.
To maintain the very best tailored nutrition for your dog, we're still refining our ingredient supply. This might result in small kibble changes over the next couple of months.
We hope these FAQs help answer any queries you might have. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to resolve this delay.
