Can you create a recipe for my puppy?
Once your puppy reaches 6 weeks old you can create their online profile and we'll create a unique Tails.com recipe of dry food that develops with them as they grow.
Why do puppies get food every 14 days instead of every month?
Puppies grow at an astonishing rate in their early development period after weaning from their mother's milk. For this reason, it’s important we provide them with the correct levels of energy, protein and fat levels in order to support their rapid growth week by week. With a 14 day delivery schedule and feeding plan that is adjusted regularly to their exact nutritional requirements, we can be sure they are growing at the right rate and their diet is constantly adapting to their changing needs.
Why is the default exercise level for puppies of 6-14 weeks 'up to 1 hour per day'?
Frequent high impact exercise at such a young age can result in joint and bone issues as the dog matures. For this reason, it’s advisable that puppies of this age should receive less than an hour of intense exercise per day.
A good rule of thumb for puppy owners in terms of how much exercise the dog should get (especially those under 14 weeks) is 1 minute of active exercise per week of life up to three times a day.
We also want to avoid the risk of over-feeding very young puppies which could cause unwanted weight gain. As the exercise level has such a big impact on the amount of calories that a dog needs each day, their feeds need to remain at a lower level to ensure they aren't receiving too many calories. Unwanted weight gain early on in a dog's life can predispose them to easy weight gain later in life and make it more difficult to lose as the dog gets older.
