I'm still seeing worms after using the treatment
Finding worms after treating your pet can be unsettling, but it doesn't mean the medication didn't work. It all comes down to how worming treatments function differently from flea or tick protection.
How worming treatments work
Flea and tick treatments stay in your dog's system to provide a full month of continuous protection. Worming treatments quickly and effectively clears out any worms that are actively present in your dog's gut on the exact day they take it.
Because the treatment doesn't leave a protective shield behind, a curious dog could theoretically pick up a new worm infection from the environment just a few days later.
This is exactly why the World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA) recommends a routine treatment for adult dogs every 3 months (and monthly for adventurous puppies!).
