How do I apply the flea and tick spot-on treatment?
- Screw off the lid and carefully use the top end to break the seal - you will hear a click!
- Behind the neck (between the shoulder blades is usually the best spot as this isn’t an area dogs can groom for themselves), part the hair so you can see the skin and squeeze the whole tube directly on to the skin.
- Wash your hands. Keep your pet dry for 24 hours after application
Tips
- If your dog usually wears a collar or harness that might sit over the area, avoid putting it back on for a few hours - otherwise you might find the treatment gets absorbed by the fabric. The same goes for stroking that area and try to do bath time before applying treatment!
- If your dog is a bit worried about being given treatment, remember to make it a positive experience and praise/reward good behaviour!
How do I give my dog the worming tablet?
Most dogs need a worming tablet every three months. However, if your dog is under 6 months they'll need one monthly.
Always give the food with or after food, never on an empty stomach.
Try hiding the tablet in our food
The tablets can be broken up into small pieces (e.g. half or quarters) or even crushed and mixed with something super tasty like a dog friendly peanut butter or tinned sardines (just watch those extra calories if a bribe is needed)!
Manually give the tablet to your dog
If you'd prefer to manually give your dog the worming tablet that's no problem either. Just open your dog's mouth, pop the tablet to the back of the mouth/throat, close the mouth and then encourage them to swallow (stroking their throat can be a good way to do this).
There are also tools (commonly called 'pill poppers' that can make this a little easier.
